After the pretty islands my next destination was Panama City so I made you a Panama City Guide. In this post I’ll share cool things to do and tips to explore the city. Full Panama City guide with best things to do and my favourite places to eat.

Panama city guide

I’m sure one of the first things you spot after arriving is the pretty high rise skyline. Specially if you choose to stay on the other side of the bay in Casco Viejo. It was cool to be back in the city after spending time on the island and Panama City seems so modern on some parts that it was huge shock!! The last city I had seen was San Jose in Costa Rica and that’s just nasty. So it was cool to be out and about.

Best things to do in Panama City

Here are my top choices on how to spend your time in the City. There is something for everyone and these are just few things that I really liked.

– Explore Casco Viejo

The old part of Panama City is so cute and colourful! Tiny streets with old style colonial houses in every possible colour together with little shops and restaurants made this my favourite part. Check out some old ruins, green city squares and views over the bay. It was just days away from Christmas during my visit and they went crazy with the deco!

– Check out Panama Canal

Short Uber drive away from the city center you can see one of the modern wonders of the world – the famous Panama Canal. It’s the first man made water way to cross Central America and even if you’re not in to boat it’s incredible to see it. I’ll make a separate post for this next.

– Eat at the fish market

Just a short walk away from Casco Viejo is popular fish market just on the ocean fron. They cook and serve some of the daily catch. Filled with locals and travellers it can get quite hectic and the vendors are super persistant, stand your ground! Ask advice about which stall to pick because it makes a huge difference. Delish and super sweet when you hit the right one.

– Chill at the roof top bars

Specially in the old town there are few different choices for soaking up sun on the roof. I went to LAZOTEA and Gatto Negro. Panamá has many sunny days and amazing night life so this is the way to go!

– Enjoy sunset on the 66th floor

The best city sunset ever can be enjoyed at the rooftop bar Ocean Sun Casino at the JW Marriot Panama. It’s located in the business distric that can easily be reach with Uber. We made sure to play some dollars at the JW casino and it was my first time ever 😀 Pricey drinks but so worth it!

Panama City info

Panamá is the capital of Panama and it has just under a million about. Easy to handle!

The best areas for tourist and travellers are Casco Viejo and the business district. Feel free to Uber around, it’s so handy! Official currency is USD which makes life nice and easy.

Panamá is your main spot to get around the country by flying or by land.

Where to eat in Panama City

Since you all know I love food here are few of my favs of the huge selections of restaurants:

Aki Sake Bar & Japenese Bistro

Cute little Japanese restaurant in Casco Viejo that was an obvious choice. Affordable, good bowls and tasty drinks

Calle 8 Con Avenida BPanamá 0811

Nomada Eatery

Simply AWESOME! Best food and such a cool deco. I ate here quite a few times so got to know the sweetest staff. Delicious salads and burgers.

Calle Novena, San Felipe, Cuidad de Panamá

Super Gourmet

Local options in Casco Viejo that makes super tasty home made food and tons of good coffee. They also sell variety of products to enjoy at home.

Avenida A Between Calle 6 & 7 , Casco Viejo

+ Where to stay in Panama City:

There are plenty of cool hotels in Panamá but if you’re a backpacker I recommend Luna’s Castle hostel.

Not too fancy but old building is really cool, the staff was friendly and they party!
